“Les Automobiles Georges Irat”

“Les Automobiles Georges Irat” is a lithograph poster that was created by the French Art Deco illustrator, René Vincent, from 1923. Georges Irat was a French automobile maker that manufactured automobiles between 1921 and 1953. Vincent created several advertisement posters for the Georges Irat company.

In this piece, a gentleman is sitting in the driver’s side of his automobile and giving a kiss to his love. If you look closely, you can see that the car is sitting on a black and white checkerboard surface. The gentleman’s chauffeur, seen in the background on the left, is wearing a slight smirk. Automobiles were new and exciting, and the act of driving a car became a new pastime. Oftentimes, the wealthy gentlemen who bought these early automobiles loved driving so much that they would chauffeur their chauffeurs around.

Vincent was an enthusiast for the newly invented automobile. He was one of the first people in France to get a driver’s license and one of the first people in France to install a garage addition onto their house.

The original drawing of “Les Automobiles Georges Irat” is in a private collection. Thankfully we can still enjoy this work. Art prints of “Les Automobiles Georges Irat” are sold across the internet today.
